Good start in South East Asia

Since my internship only starts on the 2th of april I thought it would be a great idea to discover Malaysia and its culture a couple of days beforehand.

And what is a better way to do that then a small road trip? ;)

First stop : Singapore!

23th of March : Landed in Singapore.

Singapore also known under the name of "Lion city" is a sovereign city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. This country Island is a real melting pot of different population and religion which makes it a really interesting place to visit.

The first thing I needed to do was to find my hostel. I love staying in hostels as it's just the perfect way to meet a bunch of new people from around the world, exchange with them and maybe make new lasting friendships. Moreover it's usually also cheaper then any other accomodation.

I stayed at the Beary Best Hostel which I would absolutely recommend! It's at a stone throw away from Chinatown and easy access with public transportation.

As I was walking around as a melted zombie I decided to just stroll around a little in Chinatown, eat some noodles and go to bed.

24th of march: Big stroll

I believe the best way to discover a city is to stroll around, visit the different famous places but most of all get lost.

So that's exactly what I did!

I took my map and went towards the Marina Bay. It's a very well known places as you will find the Marina Bay Sand Hotel, Merlion Lion, big shopping malls as well as the beautiful Gardens by the Bay.

As I walked towards the luxurious Hotel I got stopped by a WWF member who wanted to ask me some question about my plastic use. While talking, the sunny sky we had just vanished away to let place to the hardest pouring rain I've ever seen! We found a shelter and I discovered the guy I was talking to had studied at the ESSEC in Cergy, such a coincidence! Once the rain stopped he invited me to attend the WWF event planed that night during the 60 hour earth day.

I then went to big Gardens by Bay where I spent a couple of hours walking, chilling and taking pictures. It's definitely one of my favourite spots in the city. Every day at 7.45 pm and 8.45 pm there is a big free light show at the Super Tree Groove that I really wanted to see. I had some time over so i went on the Skywalk which offered a great view over the Gardens and city. Price of Skywalk: 8 RM

60 hour earth day

When in Western countries we advance or move back one hour in order to save some energy, here during the 60 hour earth day on the last Saturday of March, WWF encourage companies and individuals to switch of their lights from 20.30 pm to 21.30 pm. And that's what most of them did, the city was pretty dark. Meanwhile WWF organized free concerts, animation and games all with the problem of plastic use as main theme.

25th of March : Last day in Singapore

Apparently Little India is a must on a trip to Singapore so I had to go. The market, the people, the monuments, the food and even the temperature that day, everything reminded me of what India would look like. It's such a great place to walk around, visit the shops and take pictures in front of the old colored colonial British houses. A curry for lunch was then also very predictable.

After my lunch I went to the underground station and asked someone a place I should visit according to him. He said Burgis, I bought my underground ticket and got there pretty fast. Once arrived there I had no clue what to see there but i walked around and saw some impressive buildings and a huge mall with literally everything! Does anyone know why malls are so big in Asia cause I just get lost all the time....

I spend quite some time there and once I found the exit I went back to the Hostel where I talked with some fellow travelers and watched a movie.

My bus to Kuala Lumpur was at 23.59 p.m so I still had some time. I ate a very good dish in Chinatown with a girl from the hostel and went back there to get my stuff.

When I took out my ticket I realize I booked it for the wrong day... There it was, the first travel struggle! I quickly booked another ticket and wasted 39RM, but hey i couldn't do anything else...

I just made it on time and even got the chance to talk with some filipino girls with whom I've stayed the whole trip and early morning.
