Week 2
This week went fast and did some really interesting things.
My daily missions are still updating the Facebook and Instagram from Mount Kinabalu and North Borneo Cruises. As we went on the cruise last Thursday, we made a lot of pictures and videos that we will be using for our social media. This week we wanted to try something new, post twice a day.
They also asked me to schedule my posts in advance so that I wouldn’t have to think each day about what I am going to post with which picture and which caption.
As we really wanted to boost North Borneo cruises’ Instagram I made a collage on canvas which we posted on Facebook to let people know they can follow us on Instagram as well.
I updated the Seatango file schedule as well. Seatango is the diving branch of Amazing Borneo.
For the Open Day on the 12th of May they asked me to create a more detailed floor plan with all the different measurements so that it would be clearer for the participants to know how much space they have for their booth and activities. In preparation of the open day I also need to think about what the main booth, that’s to say the Amazing Borneo one.
For months, they’ve been willing to change the Mount Kinabalu site as it isn’t very clear. They asked me to put in some ideas and things to make it clearer and easier for the customer to move around on the site.
I’ve also continued working on editing my French vlog. I like doing it but it does take a lot of time and it isn’t always very easy. Editing a video is really something that I would like to learn during my internship as it’s something I haven’t really done before and which can also be very useful for the future.
Team building event:
In the beginning of the week I was added to the organization of team building event for 15 people. During the organization, my role was to help finding games but my main role during the event was take pictures. After several meetings, everything was set. On Saturday, we therefore went to the Nexus Resort at a one hour drive away from Kota Kinabalu. We went there an hour in advance in order to prepare all the games.
Below the different games:
- Catch the flag (game in which you need to try to avoid the defenders in order to catch the most flags)
- Blind drawing (The team stand in line one gets a word and have 10 seconds to draw it. He then needs to show it to the next drawer. The last in line need to guess what the drawing is)
- Throw the egg (make a structure to throw an egg without breaking)
- Scavenge hunter (Find all the material needed for the next game)
- Build a boat (build a boat that can carry one person from one point to another)
It was a very successful day, the company really liked our team building event and the participants enjoyed the games.
Week 3
My missions were:
- Updating Facebook and Instagram of mount Kinabalu and North Borneo cruises. This week we wanted to try new strategy. We wanted to find out at which time we would reach the most people as well as get the most likes and followers. At the end of the week I needed to create a little report about it.
- If you’ve read my blog about the cycling tour I’ve done (will be up soon), then you just read what I’ve been working on on Monday. In fact, I needed to create a blog post for the company’s travelblog (will be here once posted).
- It’s nearly Kaamatan here in Sabah. Kaamatan is a form of harvest fest celebrated annually in the state of Sabah in north Borneo. It is normally celebrated by the ethnic Kadazan- Dusuns but more and more are now celebrating it as well. It lasts for the whole of the month of May.
During the weekly marketing meeting on Monday, Amanda from the North Borneo cruises joined us and wanted to have our opinion and help into giving the harvest theme to the cruise and promote it as best as possible.
As it would start on the 16th of May they asked me to make a marketing plan about what to do and when (looking for fun facts, take pictures, create design….) as well as a detailed check list with all the objects we would need (decoration, food….).
Open day tasks:
For the open day there are still a lot of things to be done so I also helped with that:
- Call all the invited suppliers to confirm if they were still coming
- Create an info student kit with info about the company, the working environment and how to apply.
- Update the “who is coming” list
- Other smaller things…
- I did some SEO for the different travel blog posts
- Updated the post schedule file from Amazing Borneo since November.
- Promoted the last Mount Kinabalu climb slots for 23th and 24th April.
- Check if what’s written on the website is the same as in the leaflets.
Week 4
Week 4 started very early on a Monday morning at 4am. Dane and I went to the starting point of mount Kinabalu trails to give Wilson, our mountain guide a reward for posting that often on Mount Kinabalu live and getting most likes, comments and shares out of it.
The way to Mount Kinabalu that seamed so long and usual for dane was for me something new and enjoyable every aspect of it.
Seeing Mount Kinabalu for the first time after posting pictures of it every day on social media made it just even better! I loved it decided that before I leave Sabah, I'll climb it! After we gave the gift to Wilson, we ate some breakfast and went back to the office.
