First days as an Intern

My first week working as an intern at Amazing Borneo just came to an end.

In this part of my blog you will be able to find information about what I am doing and the tasks that has been given to me. Curious already? :D


I’ve had a great start at Amazing Borneo ! After meeting my tuteur Emily, she introduiced me to my new colleagues. She also showed me around the office which actually kinda looks like a mini Google office as there is a gym, a pool table, a small living room and kitchen as well as a state of the art meeting room and ideas room. The company really wants to give its employees a great working environnement so that they don’t feel reluctant going to your work, which I believe is really good ! Some responsabilities...

I directly felt integrated into the marketing team as they were very kind but also curious about where I came from and what I’ve studied in order to see how I could play my part into their department. They directly handed me out some tasks with responsabilities, for example during my whole internship I’ll have to take care of Mount Kinabalu’s Facebook and Instagram as well as the social media of North Borneo Cruises. This means that not only I’ll have to post, update and be active on a daily basis but also edit pictures and choose the right captions and hastags without being repetitive.


New ideas...

They explained to me that they were a little stuck with the North Borneo Cruises social media as it is nearly always the same kind of posts. Therefore they asked me to check what other companies were doing to captivate and maintain their audience and make a small report about it. They also wanted me to suggest new ideas which I did (timelapse, Q&A month…).


Organising...

They also integrated me into the organisation of the Open Day which is happening on the 12th of May. The purpose of this event is to show customers, suppliers but also students how the company operates, looks like and answer any questions people might have. After the first meeting, Dane who is the organiser, asked me to make the plan of the office with every different areas covered and help with the general design of the event. I also adapted the different invitation letters for the hotels and suppliers.


Vlog...?

As we didn’t have much content for the social media of the sunset cruise, they ask me if I wanted to join one of the cruises and make sure to have enough picture to try a new experiment. As a matter of fact next week they want me to post twice a day to see if that would change anything in terms of gaining followers. They were also wondering if I wanted to make a vlog in french to which I said that I wanted to try for sure. So there I was meeting my colleagues onboard, taking as much pictures and videos as I could and vlog in french. The next day Cassie asked me to try and edit my vlog, something I had never done before. She showed me the basics on Adobe editing pro CC and then she just let me work on it the whole day.



General tasks...

In the meantime they also gave me tasks like updating the post schedule file for Mount Kinabalu and North Borneo cruises which hadn’t been done since october, create a new sales registration file for the customers and find a good post schedule app for Instagram.
