Second month: May

Writer's picture: Stroopwaffel on the road Stroopwaffel on the road

I started this month off by being changed from Marketing department to the Sales department. My tasks now will not only consist in Marketing ones but also some Sales when it's needed.

Week 1

This were my missions of the week:

- Take care of the Instagram and Facebook of Mount Kinabalu and North Borneo cruises and put some extra attention in promoting our Open Day happening next week.

- I completed the Sales tracking file from April.

- Cassey created a highlight story for the Amazing Borneo so she wanted me to create one for North Borneo cruises and Mount Kinabalu. I made different sections such as the highlight section, different trails, what to pack list, FAQ... I mainly used canvas and did some photo editing beforehand

- I called the different suppliers who didn't answered last time to ask if they were still interested in our Open Day.

- For the Open Day they wanted to make a video about women in Amazing Borneo so Cassey asked me to make a storyboard and think about the different questions we could ask them.

This is the list I came up with:

· How did/fast you grow within the company?

· What does being successful in your work place mean to you?

· What’s the biggest challenge in your job?

· Is there a lot of pressure in your position?

· What’s the best part about overseeing a team?

· What’s the least favorite part of being in charge of a team?

· According to you what is a good a good leader?

· How do you keep your employees (team members) motivated?

· What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

- I made the student info kit with more information about the tourism industry itself and made it in the right format adapting to the black and white printing.

- Pei sing (webmaster) asked me to check all the tour packages and check if the price listed are really the cheapest one. If not i needed to write it down in a google sheet so that she could change it.

Week 2

- Update social media and promoting Open day

- Check if the prices of the climb slots of May and June were correct. That's to say verify the prices but also the price if you are an international solo traveler, you need to pay RM200 more and when you are a Malaysian solo traveler, RM100 more.

- Helped in the organisation of the Open Day (t-shirt, call the suppliers to remind them about our event, documents..)

- Press release in the right format

- Finished vlog!

Open day 12th May

We were all there very early to prepare everything and make sure everything was ready on time before the guests arrived.

The different booth were set up, chairs, balloons, food, signs, decoration and stage were put on their place and we were ready to welcome the guests.

My task during the event was to take pictures and make lives about the event. I needed to go to the different booths, film the performances and speeches and be help people in taking their pictures for them to share on social media.

Around 9.30 people were coming in and visited the different booth while an orchestra played several songs. Suppliers, agents, school and media arrived and around 10am the NBC crew performed their dances which attracted a lot of people back to the stage.

Around 10.30am Kenji, the CEO of Amazing Borneo made a speech about the future of tourism in Sabah and announced the launching of a new booking system not only for mount Kinabalu but also all the other tours.

Some other speeches followed and then people were ready to go fill in their passport with stamps in order to get the chance to win great prices in the lucky draw.

People stayed for a long time and really seamed to enjoy the games and activities we planned for them. The guests were eating laughing playing and taking lots and lots of pictures. The tour of the office left quite some good impressions behind as well!

Some spontaneous dance off and singing made it really complete showing how fun it is to work at Amazing Borneo.

Around 1pm we announced the winners of the different prices in the lucky draw. Most of the winner were still there so we could directly hand over their prices. Among the prices they could win a dive to the newly-lanced Seatango ballroom, different stays for a couple of nights plus visits, lifeskills training, cruise for two...

Overall it was a great day for the public but also for the employees. People talked about us on social media and that's what we wanted!

Week 3

Last week it was election week in Malaysia and because of its outcome, everyone in the office would get three days off. As I really wanted to climb Mount Kinabalu I took my chance and booked my climb as it wouwas way more affordable in May (article to be up soon).

As a result my week was really short so this is what I did during this week:

- Took care of social media as usual

- Teached how to use lightroom CC which is a program for color correction for photos.

- On saturday I helped record the voices of Claudia and Winfrey for the NBC Ka'amatan video Cassey was working on.

Week 4

While still feeling the climb in my legs from the climb, this week i worked on:

- Updating mpunt kinabalu and North Borneo Cruises Facebook and Instagram and beeing active.

- Create a video with some of the best pictures of Mount Kinabalu to post on Facebook in order to motivate people in booking their climb.

- Data analystics about the 2017 Sales. My task were first of all delete every booking that weren't from the 5 principal markets. After that I needed to sort them by nationality and finally per type of tours booked and when. It was quite some work but it is pretty useful to know which nationality is interested in which type of product.

- Worked on my vlog and blog about my climb

- Rearranged all the NBC pictures on facebook so that there would be more harmony between the website and the facebook page.

- Helped in doing reseach for different future blog post.
